Privacy Policy

Introduction

Toshiba Home Appliances Corporation (hereinafter referred to as THA) respects personal data and regards protection of the same as both an essential aspect of business and an important social responsibility. This document describes our Privacy Policy for the handling personal data obtained. THA allows access to almost all of its services, including those from THA operated website (including those via THA's website), without any need to submit personal data. However,certain services, such as those described below, cannot be used without the provision of personal data.

  • Registration for membership services.
  • Responses to questionnaires.
  • Participation in events such as contests and prize offers.
  • Applications to attend exhibitions, seminars, training sessions, etc.
  • Provision of maintenance services.

In all these examples, personal data is required only to the extent necessary to support customer convenience, improve the quality of our services, or to offer services that better meet customer needs. For the purposes of this policy, "personal data" is information that can be used to identify an individual, and which includes one or any combination of the following: name, age, date of birth, telephone number, e-mail address, street address, and details of inquiries to us.

1.Key Principles

Our basic Privacy Policy on three key principles.

  1. 1) Specification of Use and Prohibition of Use for Other Purposes

    Whenever THA asks for personal information, the purposes for which it will be used are specified in advance, and use is restricted to those purposes. (If THA should ever desire to use personal data for purposes other than those specified, it informs individuals of the additional purposes. All individuals may refuse to consent to use of their personal data for such additional purposes.) Individuals who do not wish to provide THA with personal data can with hold consent, though doing so may prevent access to certain services that THA provides.

  2. 2) Non-Disclosure and Non-Provision to Third Parties

    In principle, THA does not disclose or provide personal data to third parties, except in the following circumstances.

    1. When express consent to do so is received from the person concerned.
    2. When an inquiry concerning a product or service can be more appropriately handled by a THA subsidiary or affiliate that is responsible for that product or service.
    3. When THA consigns such activities as promotional campaigns or competitions to other entities, in which cases personal data is covered by the terms of a non-disclosure agreement.
    4. When it is necessary to complete settlement of payment for products ordered or services provided (e.g. providing information to financial institutions to facilitate credit card transactions, etc.)
    5. When a judicial order or the like obliges THA to disclose personal data.
    6. When the business is succeeded to another entity by way of a merger, corporate separation, transfer of business or otherwise.
  3. 3) Secure and Appropriate Management of Personal data

    THA manages personal data in an appropriate manner. Strict security measures ensure that personal data is securely saved and kept from loss, misuse or improper alteration.

2.Inquiries concerning Personal Data

Individuals who wish to confirm their personal data should contact the section responsible for the services where they input the information, or the section responsible for the website management. THA will provide the personal data that it has when it has confirmed that the individual making the inquiry is the person concerned. This restriction applies to prevent leakage of personal data to third parties. When an individual requests correction of errors or outdated data, or a deletion, THA will change or delete the data based on requests when it has confirmed that the individual making the request is the person concerned.

3.Handling of Personal Data of Individuals under Age 16

THA exercises the greatest possible caution to protect the privacy of young people. Individuals under 16 years old are requested to provide personal data only after obtaining the consent of a parent or guardian.

4.Use of Cookies, Web Beacons and Other Technologies

"Cookies" are small packets of information that Web servers transmit to visitors' or users' browsers for the effective operation of the Internet. THA may use cookies to customize or personalize Web sites in order to better meet your individual expectations or requirements, and to improve the contents of Web sites or the types of services provided. Browsers can be set to refuse cookies or to provide a warning whenever cookies are being received. However, computers that are set to refuse cookies will not be able to make use of useful functions, such as site personalization.

"Web beacons" or "Clear GIF" is an invisible GIF that tells us how many visitors visited the page or access certain contents. THA may also use these Web Beacons or other technologies to tailor the site to provide better customer service. These Web Beacons often work in conjunction with cookies but browsers can be set to refuse cookies or to provide warning whenever cookies are being received. Web beacons will still detect visits to these pages but we do not use this technology to access personally identifiable information.
